Helen Mae Auntie Hum Smith Elliott 2019

Helen Mae (Elliott) Smith of Sarnia passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at North Lambton Lodge in Forest. The beloved wife of Leslie Robert Smith (1963) and dear mother of Joan & Ross Totten of London, Darlene & Bruce Douglas of Sarnia and the loving Grandmother of Rob Douglas of Strathroy. Helen is predeceased by her siblings Bessie Smith, Gertrude Patterson, Charles, Ellesmere, Borden and special brother Allen Elliott.
Helen was born on the home farm and lived there for 42 years before moving to Sarnia. She was a member of the United Church in Thedford and a Sunday school teacher for many years before becoming a member of Dunlop United Church in Sarnia and a faithful member of the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Sears employee for 13 ½ years and later a member of the retiree club. Helen volunteered her help and friendship to many in nursing homes and hospitals or in their own homes. When in need of help, many had Helen’s number and she would be there to serve.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King St. E. in Forest. Please leave a memory or condolence online at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
The World Needs
A little more kindness and a little less creed
A little more giving and a little less greed
A little more smile and a little less frown
A little less kicking a man when he is down.
A little more “we” and a little less “I”
A little more laugh and a little less cry.
A few more flowers on the pathway of life
And fewer on graves at the end of the strife
