Leo Daigle
1931-2019
KOUCHIBOUGUAC, NB – Leo Daigle 88, of
Kouchibouguac passed away peacefully at the Stella Maris Hospital,
Ste-Anne-de-Kent on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.
Born in
Kouchibouguac, he was the son of the late Angus Daigle and late Exilda
(Johnson) Daigle.
Leo
graduated from the New Brunswick Technical Institution (now NBCC) in
Moncton, NB as an Automotive Mechanic. He was employed at Art
Cumming’s Ltd., Alex E. Ross, Atlantic Motors Ltd, Steeves
Battery and Electric. He retired as shop foreman
from MacDonald Pontiac Buick GMC lnc., with 33 years in the automotive
industry.
While living
in Moncton, he was a member of the Snow White Snowmobile Club, the
Moncton Gun Club (winning trophies for trap and skeat shooting) and
Bowling Clubs. Leo was an ardent hunter and fly fisherman, he
enjoyed tying flies and his collection of classic cars and
trucks. Leo was a “jack of
all trades” and always willing to give a helping
hand.
In 1989, he
moved to Kouchibouguac and was one of the organizers of the
Kouchibouguac Senior Citizens Club in 1990.
In 1992,
the NB Government approved funds for a Kouchibouguac Seniors Complex
(8 units) which was completed and officially opened October 30, 1993;
Leo was chosen as President.
Also in
1992, he won the Commemorative Medal of the
125th Anniversary of the
Confederation of Canada, designed to honor Canadians for their
contribution to their citizens and communities.
He was a
member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, served as Eucharistic
Minister, care taker of the parish cemetery and on the finance
committee.
Leo will be
sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Lily (Stimson) of Kouchibouguac;
four sisters, Bertha Robichaud of Lornville, Eva Zelward (Art) of
Saint John, Alice Brooks (late Everette) of Dipper Harbour, Jean
Donovan of Saint John; three brothers, Fred Daigle (Emma), Roy Daigle
(late Nora), John Daigle (Lena) all of Kouchibouguac; sister-in-law,
Gladys McIntyre of Moncton; six Godchildren, Claire Comeau, David
West, Dawn Girvan, Donna Kearney, Julia Daigle, Mylene Comeau, many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his
parents, he was predeceased by five sisters, Della, Louise, Evelyn,
Rita, Emma and three brothers, Alyre, Edgar and Raymond.
As per
Leo’s wishes there will be no visitation at the funeral
home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019
at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in
Rexton. Interment will be held at St.
James Roman Catholic Cemetery in Kouchibouguac.
