Dykeman, Roderick Stewart – Age 63, Dean, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his family and friends through the last hours.
Born in Truro, he was the eldest son of Victoria (Fleming) Dykeman and the late Lawrence “Lonnie” Dykeman.
Rod was well-known for his passion, a trait evident to how he lived, loved, and especially how he approached his chosen profession- trucking. Whether polishing wheels, hauling “one more load” on a Saturday or attending a truck show, his smile never failed to convey love. Some of Grumpy’s fondest memories were taking his grandchildren on short “Papa and his girls” trips; of his Alberta trip with Linda and dog Trixie; and of various trips with his father or son.
Rod is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda (Hamilton); son, Rod (Sherri); daughter, Amanda (Sebastien); granddaughters, Annika, Jensen, Rhaina; brothers, Curtis (Wilma), Lonnie Jr. (Cel), Tom (Bonnie); sisters, Violet (Tim), Veldena, Victoria and Donna; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. and funeral service Friday at 2 p.m., both in Sharon Presbyterian Church, Dean, student minister Calvin Burt officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Dean Cemetery. No flowers by request. Memorial donations to Musquodoboit Valley Health Foundation- Palliative Care would be appreciated. Many thanks to Dr. Barry Giffin; Lynn Gillis, Palliative Care; emergency staff and E2 at Colchester East Hants Hospital for your wonderful care.
