Joan Quinn
1922-2019
Joan Quinn – age 97, of New Minas, passed away on Monday,
July 29, 2019, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in
England, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Miriam (Johnson)
Hitchin. Joan served her country performing war work during the Second
World War. She and her two eldest children immigrated to Canada
following her husband, John. Upon John’s retirement from the
Royal Canadian Navy, Joan and their youngest son travelled with him to
New Zealand for a year, Vancouver for another year before they
returned to Halifax. She was employed as a salesperson with
Eaton’s Department Store, in the Halifax Shopping Centre,
from where she retired. Following retirement, Joan and John lived in
England for eighteen months prior to returning again to Nova Scotia
where they settled in Kentville. She is survived by daughter,
Bernadette (Thomas) Cowl, Wolfville; son, Graham (Evelyn),
Philippines; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her
husband, John; son, Bruce; grandson, Andrew Cowl, five sisters and
seven brothers. Cremation has taken place and there will be
no visitation, by request. The funeral service will take place at a
later date. The family would like to thank the doctor, nurses and
staff at Blomidon Court – Greenwich as well as the doctors,
nurses and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care,
kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may
be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
