Katherine Isabel Chapman nee Buchan August 17th 1925 July 22nd 2019

Kay passed away peacefully on the afternoon of July 22nd 2019 in Victoria, B.C. with her niece, Sharon by her side. She was born in Calgary, Alberta, the youngest child of Andrew and Jean MacKay Buchan. Kay was predeceased by her dear husband, Robert Chapman, who passed away in 1955; sisters, Elizabeth Hurford and Margaret Emmerson; brother, Hugh Buchan; nieces, Susan Hurford Statham and Jean Buchan, nephew David Buchan, and great niece Cathy Statham.
Kay is survived by her loving nieces, Sharon Wickware, Edna Buchan (Peter) and Evelyn McKay; nephews, Gary Emmerson (Bonnie) and Andrew Buchan (Susan); 5 great nephews, Craig, Steven, Brian, Byron, and Matthew; 4 great nieces, Cindy, Nancy, Tara, and Sarah; 7 great-great nephews, Jordan, Justin, Evan, David, Cassius, Mateo, and Glen; 5 great-great, nieces, Hillary, Sabrina, Phoenix, Aleysha, Amaya, and Evelyn’s granddaughter, Kinley; Alan Statham, a long time much loved friend whom Kay lovingly thought of as another nephew, and Margaret McIntosh, niece by marriage, and her closest friend, Roberta Loomis, a friend since high school, early work mate and occasional travel companion.
Kay worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for 10 years before she started her career in 1955 as a ticket agent for Pacific Western that was bought out by Canadian Airlines and retired after 35 years in the airline industry from Air Canada.
Kay became our inspiration as she shared gifts, stories and slides of her yearly travels and great adventures to distant destinations around the world, sometimes on tour but often on her own. Lighting the way for other family members to get the travel bug as well. Kay was an amazingly positive and caring person, had an extraordinary sense of humor, and was an extremely kind and gracious lady. She leaves behind many family and long time friends, some from her early days at Pacific Western Air Lines and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A heartfelt thank you must go out for the amazing, respectful and gentle care Kay received from the 7th floor nursing staff and the many others who work there at The Selkirk Seniors Village.
Honoring Kay’s request there will be no service.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
