Grieve Ray July 23rd 2019

Grieve, Ray
July 23rd, 2019
On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, in his 99th year, Ray departed this world on his own terms with the aid of the MAID program and Dr. J. Maclean. Ray’s family will be forever grateful to this compassionate and caring doctor for helping him with his peaceful and dignified exit from this world to the next, and to Dr. S. McNair for her care.
With his loving family enjoying his company and conversation until the very end, he leaves behind his daughter Marney (Bob, 2004), son Gary; his grandchildren: Kristin McKay (Scott), Mike Trotter (Kate), Lindy Grieve and Jordan Grieve (Bekki); and great-grandchildren: Mary, Julie, William, Caroline, Jensen and Oliver. Clifford Raywood Grieve (Ray) was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Isabel, in 2011. Predeceased by parents, Margaret and Clifford Grieve of Toronto.
Ray was a golf champ, having won the Ontario Junior Championship three consecutive years from 1936 to 1938, and the Canadian Intermediate Championship, all before he was 19. Club historians from his Islington Golf and Country Club rediscovered him at 90, living in London, and he was again made to feel like a hall of famer by the Golf Association of Ontario and London Free Press coverage. The war and the need to get a “real job” were commitments that took priority over golf, and it was relegated to a hobby (although it never stopped him from scoring the occasional hole in one). How fitting that his last comment was about the game, but could also be taken as a good metaphor for life: “Golf is a great sport… just don’t take it too seriously.”
A member of the RCMP and later the City of London Police Force, he retired after a 36-year career in law enforcement. A family man at heart, he prided himself in being a good father and provider, was eager to help with any project that came his way, was generous in time and effort and eager to learn new things that would keep him current and busy.
With many thanks to the caring staff at peopleCare Oakcrossing, his home for the last three years.
You will be remembered always, Dad, with love and gratitude as our “angel in blue socks”.
