Kathleen “Merle”
Pettigrew – 70,
Hilden, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 21, 2019, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with family present. Born
in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Trueman and Elizabeth (Rae)
Russell.
Merle was a secretary for Sun Alliance Insurance Company for
a number of years. She always showed great love for family, friends
and animals.
Merle is survived by her husband, Robert
“Bob”; son, David, Hilden; sisters, Myrtle (Fraser)
Conrad, Cow Bay; Bertha (Malcolm) Burrill, Cookville; Shirley (Robert)
Webb, Truro; Dorothy (Paul) Kennedy, Truro; Emma Russell, Dartmouth;
brothers, Lewis (Shannon) Russell, Daniel (Patsy) Russell, Elwood
(June) Russell, all of Upper Stewiacke; special nephews, Darcy
Russell, Saskatoon; Devin Russell, Fort McMurray; sister-in-law, Gail
Rushton, Truro; good friend, Genevia Rushton, Bass River; half
brother-in-law, Victor Nielsen, Abbotsford, British Columbia; many
nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister,
Ester (Leroy) Kennedy; brother, James (Julie) Russell; half-sisters,
Isabelle Nielsen, Irene (Winnie) Patterson, Florence (Stuart) Day;
half-brothers, Robert (Irene) Russell, Leonard Russell, Norman
Russell.
Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre (Intensive Care Unit) and
VON.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Merle’s
family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Friday, July 26, 2019,
followed by the interment at 4 p.m., at Hilden Cemetery, across from
1805 Highway 2, Hilden. If so desired, donations in Merle’s
memory to Colchester SPCA are welcomed. Private messages of condolence
