Allan George Sonier November 10 1957 July 20 2019 (age 61)

Surrounded by his loving family, Allan George Sonier passed away on July 20, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Saint John on November 10, 1957 to Leona (Harris) Savoie and the late Louis Sonier and was the loving husband to his wife Carol Ann (Burke) Sonier.
Allan worked at Maritime Paper for 37 years and was a very dedicated employee. He was an active person. Allan was a Boy Scouts leader, he liked to play guitar and darts, liked to hunt and fish, liked to watch races and wrestling and we can’t forget those camping adventures with his best friends, Clarence and Kathy McGraw. He liked having a good time and being the center of attention. He was a joker who adored pranking his friend Carolyn and loved to torment people. His family and friends did not ever want Allan to cook bacon, but he was insistent that this was his job, and Allan cooked his bacon one strip at a time. His family would go on hikes while it was cooking, but that didn’t matter, because he was cooking the bacon! He was the life of the party at the Fire Fly Campground every time he was there. Allan was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one and he was a very devoted husband and father. Carol Ann was the apple of his eye, and he was just so very proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. He was a born and raised Saint Johner, who was known to so many people and all of them probably have a story of Allan to share, but his family will always remember this wonderful man for all the unwavering love he gave to them. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife Carol Ann and his mother Leona Savoie, he is survived by his children, Julia (Nick) Brinson, Timothy Sonier and Scott (Melinnie Perry) Sonier; grandchildren, Paige and Kayden Perry; brothers, Paul and Charlie Sonier; sister Annette Shiptiki; his in-laws, Mike (Aura) Kennedy of Airdrie, Alberta, Bruce (Lori) Burke of Saint John, New Brunswick, Gilbert (Cathy) Burke of Salt Springs, New Brunswick, Paul (Debbie) Burke of Salt Springs, New Brunswick, Stephen (Renee) Burke and Susan (Gerry) Burke of Saint John, New Brunswick and Peter Burke of Calgary, Alberta. As well as 20 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews and many, many close friends. Along with his father Louis, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Wayne and Richard Burke, mother-in-law Doreen Burke and father-in-law Austin Burke.
Allan’s family would like to thank the ER Department at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Department of Family Medicine at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Dr. J. Williamson and the Chronic Care Clinic for all the compassion and care that they provided to Allan and his family during his illness.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Celebration of Allan’s life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 2pm with interment to follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations made in Allan’s memory to the Lung Association of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
