We remember now in love, your life from start to end
And we’re just glad we knew you, as a mother and a friend
Hill, Sylvia (Edith) Kathleen June 23, 1947 – July 13, 2019
Of Huntsville Ontario, formerly of North River Nova Scotia, died peacefully, on her own accord, July 13, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Hill, mother to Heather Hill-Groomes (Barry) Sharon Smeltzer (Wally), Lori Hill-Best (Allan), and Nanny to Shelbie-Ann, Dawnita, Michel, Christopher, Kylea, Zackary, and Michael, along with a number of great-grandchildren. Sylvia will always be missed by her siblings Pidgy (Linda), Pauline (Louie), Laurie (Linda), Gloria (Darrell), Walter (Susan), Priscilla (David) and Wade, along with several nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Ambrose Thomas Christopher Hill and her parents, Lawrence and Kay Lynds.
Sylvia spent the majority of her adult life living in Ontario with Tom as well as numerous years in North River near her family and the farm where she spent her childhood. Sylvia and Tom spent many of those years involved in obtaining collectibles, selling antiques and exploring the venues where the best treasures could be found. Sylvia and Tom were inseparable throughout their lives and together they amassed a personal collection of antiques, books, photos and most importantly, friends. Sylvia missed Tom greatly after his passing……and now they have been reunited peacefully in love for eternity.
Sylvia chose to return to Nova Scotia earlier this summer to be near her family and to bask in the tranquility of the water in her last days. Since her return to Nova Scotia she was able to surround herself in the love of immediate and extended family as well as old friends, lots of banana loaf was shared, Masstown Market donuts, tea and the odd bowl of Frosted Flakes.
Early Saturday evening Sylvia left us, gazing over eastern waters, graceful, serene and most of all, peaceful surrounded by her daughters and granddaughters and a full moon.
There will be a graveside service at the North River United Church Cemetery on Saturday July 27th at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow in the basement of the church.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Rowe and John McCarthy from the Nova Scotia Health Authority and MAID program.
Any donations are to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.
