Ernest Ronald Berze Butts
Sydney Mines
June 2, 1957 – July 9, 2019
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our brother, brother in law, uncle, and friend, Ron Butts.
The eldest son of Ernest and Alice Butts (Fahey), and step-son of Jessie Butts (Waye), who he is predeceased by.
As a young man he was a member of the North Sydney Militia, and then served for his country in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a member of LIUNA General Construction Workers Local 92, Fort McMurray, for over 30 years until his recent retirement to his home in Groves Point, Cape Breton. His favorite pass time was fishing at his “secret” fishing spots, and catching the big one at Dino’s Pond. He loved to dance and was an awesome two-stepper. He was a huge hockey fan, playing for Sydney Mines High, and was true black and red, never missing a game of his favorite hockey team the Chicago Blackhawks. He was always up for a healthy competition of horse shoes, and loved cruising in his big classic cars. His competitiveness always came out in a “friendly” game of Crib and Yahtzee. In his retirement, Ron loved to spend his days tinkering around the garage and yard, and his evenings relaxing in his favorite chair overlooking the Bras d’Or lake.
Ron loved his family and attending family events, and was always ready to cheer on his grand nieces and nephews at their activities. Uncle Ron was not computer savvy but he learned to use Facetime so he could have his many video chats with his best little buddy, his 3 year old grandnephew, Breton. Ron enjoyed their many chats about fishing and what tools they would need for their next project. Breton’s words to Uncle Ron were “love you Uncle Ron Moon sky in my heart”.
Ron had a good sense of humour and loved telling stories; catch big fish or tell big lies. He was known by his many friends as “Berz”
Survived by his siblings Ella Marie Myers (Butts), Lewis Stephen Butts (Sharon), Mary Alice Butts (Chris), and Joanne Goodward (Terry), step-brother Lorne Fells, step-sisters, Starla LeFrense (Randy), Melanie Fells (Keith). He was loved by his family and friends will be forever missed.
Cremation has taken place. Ron’s family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 14, 2019, from 2-5 pm. In J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church, with Fr. J. J. MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
“Our Brother” Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we’ll miss you until we meet again.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ron Berze Butts 2019..
