It is with sadness that the family of Youssef “Joe”
El-Khoury announce his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on
Monday, June 24th, 2019 at the age of 96. Born in Niha, Lebanon, on
July 23rd, 1922, he was the husband of Watfa El-Khoury of Fredericton,
NB. Just short of celebrating his 97th birthday next month, Joe’s
family will forever honour the man they loved and respected so
much.
In addition to his wife, Watfa, he leaves behind his sons,
Wady, Albert (Lucie), Gabriel (Rita), and Pierre El-Khoury, all of
Fredericton, NB; daughters, Salem Tibbet (Fred) of Toronto, ON,
Charlotte Debly (Louis) of Ottawa, ON, and Yvonne Fahd of Ottawa, ON;
grandchildren, Marie-Josée McGraw, Youssef El-Khoury,
Daniel El-Khoury (Tiffany), André El-Khoury, Nadia
El-Khoury, Justin Weir, Jason El-Khoury (Megan), Sandra El-Khoury,
Michael El-Khoury, Alexa El-Khoury, Julianna Tibbet, Diane Tibbet
(Jorge Orozco), Karam Debly (Larra), Sheila Magnus (Matthew), Chantal
Fahd, and John Fahd (Bethany); great grandchildren, Rafaelle McGraw,
Emmanuel McGraw, Zoe El-Khoury, Jonathan El-Khoury, Jonathan Tibbet,
Francis Debly, Louis Debly and their unborn sister, Tyler Magnus, and
Austin Magnus; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews from
Lebanon, Australia, France, and Guadeloupe. Joe was predeceased by his
parents, El-Khoury Boutrous and Labibi (Youssef) Karam; and
by his siblings, Mariana, Amaline, Ilmoza, Marsha, Siltoni, Marine,
Antonious, George, and Karam. He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family.
The son of a Maronite Catholic priest, Joe was born in
Lebanon and later immigrated to Guadeloupe in 1950 where he lived for
17 years. He had left Lebanon alone to establish himself and 5 years
later brought his family to join him where they stayed together for
the next 12 years. In 1967, they immigrated a second time to Canada in
order to provide a better future and lifestyle for his family. He was
an entrepreneur and, more importantly, a devoted husband and father to
Watfa and their children. He will be sadly missed.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York
St., on Thursday, June 27th from 5-8 pm. Parish prayers will begin at
8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Charbel’s
Maronite Catholic Church, 299 Argyle St., on Friday, June 28th, 2019
at 10 am. Msgr. Elie Zouein will be celebrant. Interment will take
place in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
donations in Joe’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation or St. Charbel’s Catholic Church.
