William (Bill) Hanna
After a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis, William (Bill) Ross Hanna passed away at home on June 17, 2019, surrounded by family. Bill is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 66 years, and his five children – Alan Hanna (Helen), Karen Broadfoot, Debra Hanna (Dave Perkins), Pat Gauley (Randy) and Gail Wall (Jeff). Doting grandfather of Kelsey Havekes (Andrew), Allan Perkins, Caleigh Broadfoot, Tommy Wall and Chey Broadfoot; cherished brother-in-law of Gertrude Hanna, Doreen Blouin and Mike Nolan (Deb). Bill, age 85, worked in the circulation department of the Ottawa Citizen for more than 41 years, between throwing ringers in the horseshoe pit and sinking pool balls. He spent most of his retirement in Carleton Place, escaping to West Palm Beach, Florida, during the winter. Bill’s charm, big heart, positive attitude and always present wit will be sadly missed by all who loved him. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 23 at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa) at 1 p.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Department of Surgery, Research Chair in Urological Oncology, Care of Ottawa Hospital Foundation… In Memory of Bill Hanna would be appreciated.
