Shirley Anne Vardy (nee Barrett) passed away, into the loving arms of Jesus, peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 1st, 2019. Predeceased by Walter Vardy, husband of 37 years and son-in-law Andy Malleau. Predeceased by her parents William and Marie Barrett, sister Teresa Zeppa (Mike) and brother Jerry.
Mother of Patrick Vardy (Maria), Karen Van Rassel (Roy Gowler), Gerard Vardy (Nancy), Anne Marie Malleau (Dan Soucie), William Vardy (Kim) and Thomas Vardy (Cynthia). Beloved grandmother of “The Cousins”: Sarah Malleau, Jessica Malleau, Ellysa Vardy, William Vardy, Michelle Jackett, Sean Vardy, Chantel Vardy, Eric Vardy, Meaghan Vardy, Taylor Vardy and Morgan Vardy and their spouses and partners. Great grandmother of Parker Jackett.
Sister-in-law to Kay Barrett, Linda Vardy and Shirley Cumming. Special aunt to many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to all who knew her.
Shirley was a dedicated teacher for 35 years with the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB). She was a brave, confident, independent and courageous woman of faith who loved God and shared her many gifts in prayer.
She was a lifelong fan of the Soo Greyhounds and enjoyed golf, travel, playing bridge and bowling. She loved to hear and tell a good story and encouraged her family and friends to enjoy their lives and to love God.
Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Tuesday from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish at Corpus Christi site, 1694 Upper James Street, Hamilton on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 11:00 am. Celebration of Life to follow in Sault Ste. Marie on July 20th 2019. Internment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 11am.
