Makram (Mak) A. Farag
Passed away suddenly on June 27th at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Mak was born in Cairo, Egypt, October 5, 1938 to Atallah and Wadida Farag, graduated from Mechanical Engineering and immigrated to Canada in 1968. Mak graduated from the University of Toronto with a 2nd degree in Industrial Engineering in 1973 and began a long career with General Motors in St. Catharines. He received his MBA from Heriot Watt University in Scotland in 1997. Following a brief and reluctant retirement, Mak eagerly re-entered the workforce as a linguistic analyst with the Communication Security Establishment of Canada in Ottawa.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Laurice, daughter Gizelle (David), son John-Paul (Erin), his treasured grandchildren Preston, William, and Liliana, brother Samy (Mona), nephew Magdy, and nieces Sally, Sandra, and Maria, and all extended family. Predeceased by his loving parents, and his sister Claire (Francis).
All who knew him, especially his family, friends, colleagues at CSEC, and his GM retiree group in St.Catharines, will miss Mak for his loving spirit, zest for life, generosity, and sense of humour.
Visitation will be held at Marshall Funeral Home ,10366 Yonge St, Richmond Hill on Tuesday, July 2nd from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral service will take place at St. Mary and St. Joseph’s Coptic Orthodox Church, 11308 Yonge St, Richmond Hill on Wednesday, July 3rd at 12:00pm, followed by burial at Elgin Mills Cemetery,1591 Elgin Mills Rd East, Richmond Hill. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
