Obituary of Ido Nydam
On Wednesday June 19, 2019, at the age of 90, Ido Nydam was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour. He was born in Hoorn, The Netherlands, 7th child of 12 to the late Frederick Ernst and Sipke Nydam (nee de Vries). Ido was the first one in his family to immigrate to Canada, having done so in 1950. He married the love of his life, Frances, on May 30, 1958. In 1964 Ido and his brother Gerben began Chatham Excavating. Even after his sons Ernie and Greg took over the family business, you could find him on the job site – supervising, or delivering coffee and materials.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years Frances (nee Hoekstra). Loving father of Wendy and the late Albert Horneman, Ernie and Sheri , Ron and Peggy, Ken and Eloise, and Greg and Carrie. Proud grandfather of Emily, Martin and Erica, Joel and Rebecca, David and Heather; Steven; Rebecca and Nolan, Dan and fiancee Chaelen Crew; Ben and Katrina, Nicole and fiancee Jason Jenkins, Chris; Feleecia and fiancee Wes Nelson, and Ian. Great grandfather to Xander, Briella, Jaxon, and Wil. Dear brother of Ida DiVincenzo of Hamilton; Lies Nijdam, Annie Knibbe, and Renny and Dick Ernsting, all of Holland. Brother-in-law of Coba Nydam and Wilma Kramer of Chatham, Pete and Audrey Hoekstra of Brampton, and Art and Margo Hoekstra of Guelph.
Friends and family will be recieved at DENNING’S OF CHATHAM (519-352-2390), 4 Victoria Avenue, on Sunday, June 23rd, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 o’clock. The Funeral Service will be held at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 255 Tweedsmuir Avenue West, Chatham, on Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Pastor Fred Heslinga officiating. Interment to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. The family would love to have you join them for a time of fellowship and a light lunch thereafter.
