Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald (Gerry) Douglas Watson on Thursday May 23, 2019 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. Gerry joined his loving wife who predeceased him on January 2, 2019.
Gerry was born on December 8, 1938 in Moose Jaw Sask and grew up residing in several places including England and Vancouver. His profession as a carpenter took him to many communities until he finally settled in Cranbrook in the fall of 1970. This is where he met the love of his life Evelyn and they married in the summer of 1971. This loving, caring, humble and kind man took on the task of raising 3 children as his own and over the years as the family grew he made room in his big heart for every one of them.
Gerry was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and donated his carpentry skills on the renovation of the current building. He enjoyed all sports including baseball, bowling and golf and was a Kootenay Ice season seat holder for 18 years. He loved to get together with family for a night of card games and often left the big winner. He also enjoyed going to the casino and could often be seen at the Bingo hall.
Gerry is survived by his loving children Tisha (Brian) Flint, Brenda (Gord) Wilken and Brian (Denise) Chanski, his 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. His Brothers Jim (Wendy) Watson, Barry (Donna) Watson, Terry (Pat) Hoy, Phillip Hoy, his Sisters Sharon (Frank) Dileth, Karen (Pat) Haynes and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn of 47 years, Father Robert Watson, and his Mother and Stepfather Susan and Henry Hoy.
A family Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1st with Reverend Jack Lindquist officiating.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Watson Gerald Douglas Gerry December 8 1938
