Walter Rudolph Helbig was born February 4, 1929 to Stefania and Joseph in the first Red Cross Hospital in the British Empire at Paddockwood, Sask. Raised on a mixed farm in the Forest Gate area, Walter started working early in life hauling freight in the north, logging and sawmills, and mixed farming. Later on in life, Walter developed several businesses including Snow Castle Lodge, Polaris snowmobile dealership, Helbig’s Forest Golf Course, gravel hauling and the CAA tow- truck business. He enjoyed all entrepreneurship adventures and the many people he met along his journeys.
Walter is fondly remembered and survived by his three daughters and their families: Deborah (Grant) Leedahl, Nadine (Douglas) Wilson, Pamela (Floyd) Sukut, his grandchildren: Jody (Sean) Peace, Karla Leedahl (Mitch Desjardin), Matthew (Kate) Wilson, Brigitt (Dr. Chris de Villiers), Lacey (Seth) Barker, Dr. Markus Z Wilson, Rudie Sukut, his greatgrandchildren: Hudson, Mason, Nia, Oliver, Casey, Reid, Hanna, Laura, Riley, Ella, Jane, Ben, Maci as well as his second wife Lorraine Kingsley Helbig.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Stefania and Joseph Helbig, sisters Julia Parenteau and Luba Crawford, parents-in-law Carl and Josie Neurauter, his loving wife of 43 years Ella (Neurauter) Helbig, and granddaughter Geena Sukut.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Plaza 88, 888 Central Avenue, Prince Albert, Sask.
