Obituary for Walter Elgin Doig
Walter Elgin Doig passed away on April 30, 2019 at Cranbrook Regional Hospital at the age of
92 years.
Walter was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on April 23, 1927 to Elgin and Dorothy Doig. He was
raised by his grandmother in Surrey, BC. He left school at 14 years to work in the travelling
circus with his parents and later on the coastal freighters. Walter was a highly respected, longtime
employee of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was no stranger to the Kimberly Ski Hill in
the early days, and later enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of the Cranbrook Golf
Club.
Walter is predeceased by his wife, Kay Doig, and is survived by his daughters, Cheryl King and
Debra Skelton and son-in-law, Bill Stalker.
The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Shelley Sullivan of Cranbrook Regional
Health, to Kyle Piscopo and his wonderful team at Joseph’s Creek Villiage, and to Nancy Lemire
for being Walter’s heart friend.
At Walter’s request, there will be no memorial service. Donations may be made to the local
chapter of the Salvation Army.
