SHIRLEY DIANNE SPENCER
July 12, 1941 – May 4, 2019
Angels are born in New Liskeard. They must be for Shirley was an angel. That’s what everyone she helped said and she helped so many. As a teacher for thirty-five years at Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, Shirley was the Head of Family Studies. Aside from teaching and organizing the exam committee, she was most lauded for initiating and guiding the school’s teen mom program. As a certified Family Therapist through the Master’s program at the University of Guelph, she developed her natural ability to examine the behaviour of people and to help them change and grow. Shirley was also a Reiki Master. With this skill she was able to transmit healing energy to neighbours, friends and clients. After retiring from teaching, Shirly pursued her skill as a master quilter with passion and perseverance. She produced an abundance of Art Quilts which appeared in a variety of theatrical productions and which are now on museum display. She also produced a series of charity, comfort quilts which were supplied to cancer patients.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Audrey and survived by her sisters Wendy, Cathy and Jane. Her loving husband, Brian Gordon Sinclair, was at her side when she passed and would like to thank the staff at Stevenson Memorial Hospital and Matthews House Hospice for their understanding and compassionate care. Donations may be made to either institution. According to the wishes of the deceased, there will be no public ceremony.
Now that Shirley has left us, know that wherever she is, it is the place where angels live.
