SHIRLEY BARBARA SLOAT
1929-2019
– of Fredericton, born May 8, 1929, died peacefully
at home May 23, 2019. Shirley, the eldest of 3, was predeceased by her
husband of 63 years, Lester (d. 2014), parents Roland and Elva Shaw,
brother Robert, and brother-in-law Lawrence Rynax. Shirley is lovingly
remembered and deeply missed by her children Cynthia, Ken and his wife
Jayne Glenn, Jennifer, Elizabeth and her husband Frederick McElman;
sister Eleanor Rynax; grandchildren Aron (Ann Sophie), Colin, Lindsay
(Sean Peppard), Andrew (Natasha); great grandchildren Oskar, Max,
Stella, Elaina, Sophia, Tyson, and Farrah; Sloat family members Harry
and wife Judy, Mavis (Bowman), Joan, Glen and wife Glenna, and
Osborne; devoted friends Audrey and Vincent Kelly, Jim Goltz, and Tom
Smith.
Throughout her life, Shirley was a registered nurse, business
woman, volunteer, caregiver, and avid card player with long-time
bridge partner, Marg Fletcher. Mom was a dedicated naturalist and
conservationist, and most especially, an extraordinary mother and
friend.
Shirley’s family is deeply appreciative of the kind
and gentle care provided by Extra Mural, Dr. MacDonald, Dr. Hickey,
and the wonderful caregivers who treated Mom with such respect and
dignity. She grew very fond of you all.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Friday, May 31 from 4-6 p.m. Online condolences may be made at
www.mcadamsfh.com. A family service will be held at the interment at a
later date. For anyone who wishes, donations to Hospice House
(hospicefredericton.ca/) or the Nature Trust of New Brunswick
(www.naturetrust.nb.ca) would be greatly
appreciated.
