Phyllis Wolanski
WOLANSKI – Phyllis Florence born in
Winnipeg March 9, 1930. Passed away in Nanaimo, BC on May 11, 2019 at the age
of 89. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Peter and Lillian Wolanski, her
sister Adele and brothers Milton, Gordon, Ernie, Tommy and Jim. Phyllis is
survived by her sister Joanne Dunn (Glen) of New Westminster, B.C. and many
nieces and nephews who remember her fondly for the many times she babysat them
and enjoyed their company. Phyllis contracted polio at age 12 but still managed
a career as a practical nurse, caregiver of the elderly and as dining room
hostess at some of Vancouver’s prominent golf courses and at the Harrison
Hotel. During her convalescence from polio Phyllis was taught petit point and
later created beautiful pictures of BC forests, animals and still life. Phyllis
enjoyed helping others and loved art, antiques and books. Many thanks to
Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence in Nanaimo for her care. A family graveside
service will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Surrey.
