It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend into eternal rest and peace on Monday, April 29Th, 2019 at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s at 83 years.
Nelson was born in Halifax and grew up in Corner Brook. He was educated at Mount Allison University. He was well known throughout industry in the Maritimes and Newfoundland and Labrador. He was a mine manager at Wabush Mines and in later years in a consulting capacity in offshore gas and oil. He had numerous years of experience in petroleum, mining, marine, paper and fabrication industries. He had a long and decorated career in the Canadian Armed Forces.
He had many interests. He was an avid reader and writer, with numerous articles published. He was always interested in military history (WW1 and WW11), aviation history and a member of various committees and organizations. His extensive volunteer efforts should not be forgotten.
He is predeceased by his father Rev. John Sherren; mother, Rowena Sherren; brothers, Bryce Sherren and Keith Sherren.
Leaving to celebrate his life and cherish precious memories are his loving and dedicated wife, Barbara and their son Dr. Adam Barnes (Caitlin) and grandchildren, Rhys and Seren; son Keith Sherren (Nino) and grandchildren Galina, Nicolai and Gregory Watson and Joshua Watson; son Ken Sherren and granddaughter, Paige; son Reg Sherren (Pam) and grandchildren Mitchell and Emma; daughter Christine (Roger Perron) and grandchildren Marc (Emily), Shane and Brady; and daughter Jennifer (Mark Robichaud) and grandson, Benjamin.
Nelson would want special recognition to his brother, Reginald, who shared a common bond of respect, love and cherished memories. They had many memories and a lifetime of friendship and brotherhood along with Reginald’s wife, Ellen, a kind, loving sister-in-law.
He cherished the friendship of Mary Lou Whelan, RN (Matthew) Barbara’s sister. The two spent endless hours in conversation over the years. Lou was always there for her brother-in-law, Nelson, with love, respect and kindness for him with his medical issues. Their love for each other was beyond reproach.
He also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara and family appreciated the kindness and professionalism of two special physicians: Dr. Frank Noel, CCU, HSC, St. John’s and Dr. Lisa Kieley, his long-time family physician.
The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday May 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday May 4 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Holy Cross Southside Cemetery, Holyrood.
