Mike Deginnus of Fort Macleod, beloved husband of the late Vada DeGinnus passed away on May 28, 2019 at the age of 98 years.
Mike is survived by his daughters Gail Loof of Fort Macleod, Peggy Clarke of Fort Macleod, Susan (Doug) Simpson of Calgary, his grandchildren Lee, Nigel, Terri (Stephen), his great-grandchildren Derian, Brandon, Brianna, Ryan, Sarah, Naomi, Thomas, Harrison, one great-grandson Robert, and his sisters Elizabeth Weiss of Beaverlodge and Anita Knoblick of Cardston. Besides his loving wife Vada, Mike was predeceased by his parents Michael and Anna, his brothers Leonard DeGinnus, Dale DeGinnus, his sisters Clara Salberg, Elma Zackodnik, Laura Helgeson, June Pontarollo, his brother-in-laws Nolan Weiss, Harold Knoblick, his son-in-law Willi Loof, and his grandson Todd Clarke.
Mike was born on April 26, 1921 in Bernard, Manitoba. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Saskatchewan. After a few years they relocated to Alberta. Mike did his schooling in Alberta and helped his father farm. In his early twenties he participated in rodeo throughout Alberta. On August 12, 1946 he married his sweetheart Vada James at her family home in Magrath. By then Mike was a licensed mechanic and they lived in Taber. After Gail was born they moved to Lethbridge where Peggy was born. A few years later Mike, his father, brothers, and an uncle rented a dairy farm in Pincher Creek. After Susan was born the family moved to Fort Macleod. In his fourties Mike became a licensed welder, a career that he continued until he retired at age 65. Well into his nineties Mike always said he wished he still worked.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday June 6, 2019 at the Queen’s Hotel (207-24th Street Fort Macleod), and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
