McCagg Wilma 2019

McCagg, Wilma
With sadness her friends announce the death of
WILMA McCAGG
on January 27th, 2019, in Picton.
Born in Ottawa on November 23, 1928, the eldest of six siblings,
Wilma is survived by her youngest sister, Laura McCagg and her husband Rick Massey, of Cantley, Quebec,
along with many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her son, Greg Brady, his wife Dorothy, and their family in Vancouver.
Wilma was so proud to be the great-grandmother of baby Scarlett.
Before moving to the County, Wilma worked with Covenant House in Toronto,
was an active patron of the arts, an avid art collector and on many boards of directors,
also studying Philosophy in university courses.
After visiting the County for many years, she moved to her cottage in Consecon, and, in 2004, to Wellington,
where she was very active in serving her community with the Women’s Institute in Hillier, as Area Chair,
and as organizer of their Craft Sale for many years.
A co-founder of Grandmothers to Grandmothers with the Stephen Lewis Foundation,
a high point was attending the conference in Toronto with the Grandmothers from Africa.
She supported many causes. Into her eighties, Wilma became an actor, artist, and writer.
She was a story-teller who held everybody’s attention wherever she was – including at the hospital on her last afternoon.
Her welcoming smile and irrepressible chuckle will be missed at community events.
Wilma was deeply loved by her friends who are so grateful for their time spent with her.
She was generous, wise, intelligent, loving, funny, full of gratitude, and a positive role model in aging – and now dying.
A graveside service will be held at the Wellington Cemetery
(East side of Consecon Street, Wellington)
on Thursday, June 6th at 2:00 p.m.,
followed by a reception at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Hall.
Come and join us in celebrating the wonderful part this remarkable lady played in our lives.
