Arthur William “Lawrie” Bennett passed away peacefully Monday, April 29, 2019 at Watrous Hospital at the age of 92 years, five days short of his 93rd birthday. Lawrie was born in Springside, Sask. on May 4, 1926 to Lucille and Arthur Bennett. Lawrie enlisted in WWII but to his disappointed was never deployed. He worked for CN Rails until settling in Porcupine Plain, Sask. in 1953 embracing his entrepreneurial skills. In 1967, Lawrie and family moved to Watrous where he worked for Hertz Bus Lines, he then purchased the Texaco Service Station moving on to open Bennett’s Repair. In retirement he worked at the Manitou Springs Resort and Camp Easter Seal. Lawrie will be remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 73 years, Betty Bennett and three children: Rob (Karen) Bennett, Dawn Bennett (John Laybourne) and Darlene (Keith) Beckstrand, along with four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Watrous Cemetery. He was predeceased by grandson Brent Bennett.
