Julia “Julie” Sutherland
October 29, 1933 – May 17, 2019

Memorial Donation
Julia Sutherland “Julie” (nee Emberley) passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2019. She had enjoyed time with family on Mother’s Day only a few days before. Though her memory had faded, she remained so gentle of spirit, kind and loving as always. Julie was the youngest of six children, born to the late Robert and Harriet (nee Harnum) Emberley on October 29th, 1933 in Bay de Verde, Newfoundland. She was predeceased by her siblings: Thelma Sutton (Arthur), Gwen Farkas (Edward), William Emberley, Mary Barrett (Philip), and Phyllis Fuller (Douglas).
She trained as a Registered Nurse in St Johns, Newfoundland and practiced in St John’s, Sarnia, Ottawa, Cornwall and Winchester. She retired from active Nursing to raise her family in the early 1970’s.
She married her late husband, Bruce Dougal Sutherland (1934 – 2007) in 1960, and they lived in Iroquois for many decades. Julie resided for the last several years in Arnprior, Ontario.
Julie is survived by her three children and their families: Lorne Sutherland (Bev), of Iroquois, Alistair Sutherland (Pierre-Luc) of Arnprior, and Alison Sutherland of Iroquois.
She is also survived by her most cherished grandchildren: Lindley Sullivan (nee Sutherland) (Scott) of Thunder Bay, and Sydney, Catherine and Jorja Piquette of Iroquois. Julie is also survived by brothers-in-law Douglas Fuller (Phyllis) and Dale Steele (Marjory) and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Julie was an amazing caregiver and as a Registered Nurse, touched the lives of so many. She actively canvassed for many charities over the course of her life. She dedicated her life to the care of others in her family and her community. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Moonlight Chapter, where her virtues of Fidelity, Constancy, Loyalty, Faith, Love and Charity are foundational.
Julie’s caring heart was perhaps most evident in witnessing her pure joy as a Grandmother.
Friends may call at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home in Iroquois on Monday, May 27th, 2019 from 9:30 am until time of the service at 11am.
A private family interment at Iroquois Point will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Julie’s memory may be made to one of the following charities that she supported over many years: Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
