The death of Joy Howe, daughter of the late Hector and Rita (Cyr) Howe, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the age of 53.
Joy was born in Newcastle on August 9, 1965. She attended the Kinsmen school and Miramichi Valley High School. She moved to Fredericton in 1981 and graduated from Fredericton High School in 1983. Joy was also a Special Olympian, competing in the sport of bowling.
Joy was a valued and long-serving employee with the MORE Services Vocational program, and worked for a variety of local organizations and businesses in the community, where she was known for her professionalism and high standards in every job she performed. She took pride in her work and was appreciated by her co-workers.
Joy loved spending time with her large family, who were very important to her. She was the life of the party at family gatherings and was happiest on the dance floor. She also enjoyed walking, taking photos, movies, music and Tim Horton’s coffee. She lived for over 25 years at the MORE services group home on University Avenue in Miramichi and dearly loved her roommates and caregivers.
Joy is survived by eight sisters: Mary Silliker (Delbert) of Lower Derby, NB; Gladys Jardine (Winson) of Maple Glen, NB; Evelyn Butcher of Maple Glen, NB; Elvina Sobey (John) of Chatham, NB; Leola Chiasson (Roger) of Barrie, ON; Doris Donovan (Gary) of Newcastle, NB; Sheila Wood of Fredericton, NB; Leah Howe of Trenton, ON; Special nieces Tracy Kenny (Darrin) and Jenna Kenny of Millerton, NB; Jayme Campbell (Donald) of Chatham, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joy is predeceased by three brothers: Hector, James and William John.
Visitation will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home on Sunday, May 26th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM. Funeral Service at St. Andrew’s United Church, Chatham, NB on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 11 AM with Rev. Charlene Maguire –MacKnight officiating
Burial will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery.
In Joy’s memory a donation may be made to the Miramichi chapter of Special Olympics.
