Obituary of James Lennox Cotter
COTTER, James L.
March 26, 1934 – May 7, 2019
Passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital. Predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth G. Cotter and sister June Hay. He is survived by his loving family James Cotter Jr., Susan Cotter, Kathleen Bailey (Ken), Carter and Caleb. James was born in Kingston and graduated from KCVI. He decided to undergo a career in the trades. He did an apprenticeship as a machinist and became foreman for the locomotive company in downtown Kingston. In later years he decided to take an opportunity and apply at Corrections Canada where he spent his last 25 years working at Collins Bay Institution as Chief of industries. Jim loved the outdoors and was more at home in the woods then he was in his living room! He loved to take the neighbourhood kids for nature walks and teach them all about the different plants, sometimes coming home smelling of leeks, fiddleheads and puffballs.
He loved to hunt and trap. The weekend was his time with a faithful retriever by his side. Jim always said how fortunate he was to see his grandsons grow up and how proud he was of them both.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He and Betty shared a love that lasted 61years. Cremation in the care of James Reid Crematorium. A Memorial Reception will be held in the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME RECEPTION AND CELEBRATION CENTRE, on Sunday, May 12 between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. (Please enter the Reception Centre from the rear parking lot). As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Red Cross or Alzheimer Society.
“He will be in our hearts forever and never forgotten.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of James
