Jacob, Ronald Morris

Peacefully in his home, on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the age of 77. Predeceased by parents Edward Alexander Jacob and Ruth Christina Jacob (née McLean), and brother Allan. Ronald was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and grew up in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. After the premature death of his father, he began to help raise his siblings and contribute to the family finances, despite his young age. An outstanding student, he received a scholarship to Saskatoon Teachers’ College, and began teaching in 1961. After relocating to Ontario, he met the love of his life, Angela Mary Jacob, in Bancroft, 1968. They moved to London, Ontario, in 1970, where their son, Edward, was born. Ronald completed a master’s degree in library science at Western University, and worked at Summers Corners Public School in Aylmer, and later at Forest Park/Mary Bucke Public School in St. Thomas. Combining his love of books and tremendous affection for young people, he taught in the classroom and worked in the school library. An early adopter of personal computer technology, he introduced many students to computer literacy and programmed numerous educational games to engage and motivate students. Ronald was an avid amateur videographer, and also built up an extensive collection of folk and country music. He died following a courageous battle with cancer. He will be loved and remembered by wife Angela, son Ed and daughter-in-law Kazuko, sisters Vera Aug and Darlene Evans, grandsons Matthew and Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at BYRON UNITED CHURCH (519-471-1250), 420 Boler Road, London, on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ronald are asked to consider a charity of their choice.
