Irene Grace McCabe Tuesday May 28th 2019

McCabe, Irene Grace – 89 of Truro, passed away peacefully in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on May 28, 2019. Born on June 14, 1929 in Moncton, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Ida (Cuthbertson) Ripley. Irene was a member of the Truro Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26 Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years and a member of the Legion Lyrics. Irene worked for Goodman’s Department Store, Truro, where she was a purchaser for yarn and undergarments, retiring after nineteen years. Irene was a member of the Air Force Association of Canada, 102 Colchester Wing, Truro. Irene is survived by her husband of over seventy one years, John (residing at Camp Hill); daughter, Mary (Greg) Nicol, Summerside, P.E.I.; sons, Lawrence “Larry” (Janet), Bridgetown, Paul (Sandra), Truro; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene is also survived by her sister, Jean (100 yrs. old) of Hanwell, NB; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two children in infancy, Shauna Marie and Gerald Joseph; sisters, Evelyn, Minnie, Lillian, Alice, Beth, Joyce; brothers, Milner, Percy and Stephen. A private family interment of ashes will take place in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the VG Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Garden Fund where Irene spent many an enjoyable hour during her visits with John.
