Hugh (Pinoke) McIntyre passed away on May 2, 2019 in Trail, BC. He was born in Trail, BC.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Papa, in his little apartment in Rosewood Village, with the loves of his life by his side.
Pinoke worked for SD20 until being employed by Cominco where he worked, as a millwright, until his retirement in 1992. After his day was done at Cominco, he would often head down to his buddy Seth’s sports store to lend a hand.
Dad was a sports enthusiast and in the 60’s he was a member of the team (Mission Orange) that represented Canada at the World Softball championships held in New York.
Though Dad excelled at all sports, his passion was the sport of hockey. Pinoke played his junior years of hockey in Trail. He joined the Rossland Warriors in 1959/60. During that season he won the Howard Anderson Memorial trophy for Most Valuable and Sportsmanlike player. The following year he joined the Trail Smoke Eaters and was a member of the 1961 team that brought home Gold from the World Hockey Championships held overseas.
After hanging up his skates, Pinoke went on to mentor and coach hockey teams in Trail. His biggest achievement during his coaching career was in 1979 when he coached the Kootenay AllStar juvenile hockey team. During that year the team went on to win the Gold medal at the BC Winter Games in Kamloops.
Pinoke was born the 8th of nine siblings. The McIntyre clan grew up in a little house on 2nd Avenue often referred to as the “Lunch Box House”. Though the house was small, with five having to share a bed, there was no shortage of love, laughter and good times.
Pinoke was a man of passion. His life was devoted to sharing and spreading love and laughter wherever he went and with whomever he met. He loved people and being around them. He had no problem telling anyone how much they meant to him and how much he loved them. Every Christmas Eve, he would open up his doors for family and friends to gather and enjoy the spirit of the season. When he was entertaining and enjoying company he was in his element.
He spent many years holidaying with friends and family at Evan’s Lake during the summer months. In the 70’s, Pinoke and Norma decided to purchase their own little piece of paradise at Deep Lake Washington. They opened up their doors to everyone and loved when people would come to visit. Pinoke would have barbeques, reunions, birthday parties whatever it took to be surrounded by family and friends. When Dad was around love and laughter flowed in abundance.
Pinoke is survived by his children; Janet (Rick), Wendy (Walter) and Wayne (Senta), his much loved grandchildren; Jillian (Pat), Jason (Jen), Kyle (Katie), Derek (Tessla), Jessica, Courtenay (Jason), Colton (Dayna), Megan (Justin), Taylor (Cam) and Boston, great-grandchildren; Jayce, Cali, Brooklyn, Peyton, Kade, Austen, Nova, Jack, Cole, Jagger, Ava and Gunner, brother George and brothers-in-law; Lorne (Nora), Bill (Pat) and Brian (Karen) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Norma on November 24, 1995, parents Francis and Dorothy, sisters Winnie, Nellie and Matilda (Tillie), and brothers Patrick, Thomas, Frank and Jack (Busher).
We would like to thank the staff at Rosewood and Serendipity for taking care of Dad these last 4 years.
A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held at the Warfield Hall on Thursday, May 9 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ken Siemens, Celebrant. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
