Glenn MacKay
1957-2019
It is with great sadness and regret that we
announce the passing of Charles Glenn MacKay, of New Glasgow. Glenn
passed suddenly on Friday, May 17, 2019, at the age of 61.
Born June 20, 1957, to the late Mervyn and Mabel
(MacLeod) MacKay, he graduated from New Glasgow High and studied at
both Pictou Regional Vocational School and Centennial College in
Toronto.
Glenn had a passion for cars, and was a fixture
at the drag track in his earlier years. He also had a love of the
water and nature and spent much of his free time paddling the East
River. His obsession of the water was contagious. Not only was he both
well-known and respected within the paddling community, but he also
introduced so many to a pastime that helped them gain an appreciation
for the importance of the waterway that is a centre point of New
Glasgow.
Always wanting to work with his hands, he was
employed at O’Farrell’s Parts Dept., Vince
MacDonald Automotive, and was with Agropur Dairy (Scotsburn) as a
millwright for the past 15 years.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife,
Megan (Whittier Salt), sons, Jordan and Josh; sister, Marsha Sutton
(Austin); brothers, Scott (Nancy) and Ross (Loretta); special brother
Ivan Gleaves; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, and his
beloved cat, Edgar.
The ‘MacKay site’ on
Merigomish Harbour will always be full of beauty and peace, and will
forever be a place of happiness and love, even though you will no
longer be there to share it. You have left a hole in our hearts, but
your gentle kindness and the memories we shared will make your leaving
a little easier.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 23, from 2-4
pm in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow,
followed by words of remembrance at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made in Glenn’s name to the Canadian Cancer
Society.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Glenn MacKay 19572019..
