Robert Dean Anderson of Thedford passed away peacefully on May 21, 2019, at Sarnia Bluewater Health in his 85th year. Dean was married to the love of his life, Mary Ellen and could not believe this beautiful woman would say yes to spending her life working side by side with him on the family farm and square dancing their years together.
Dean and Mary Ellen raised their family of Debbie Anderson, Dave Anderson, and Glenda (Ken) Baldwin. Dean leaves a legacy in his Grandchildren, Jamie, Jordan, and Josh Baldwin and will be missed by his siblings Paul Anderson and Patsy Schultz as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family. Dean is predeceased by his mentor father Cuthbert and his much-loved mother Freda Anderson and siblings Shirley Metcalfe and Blake Anderson.
Dean took great pride in farming, counting the livestock in the spring, admiring all 12 of his IH tractors, attending auction sales and enjoying the farm pets. Dean loved nature, watching the hummingbirds, keeping a close track of the rain gage and admiring the crops in his fields. Nicknamed “Speedy” during his high school days as a track and field runner, later he was always quick to crack a joke or try to put one over on his Grandsons. A favourite past time of Dean’s was to head out to Lakeside Grain and Feed where he would enjoy his free coffee and peanuts on a weekly basis.
A visitation will take place at Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King St. E. in Forest on Friday, May 24 from 5pm-8pm. On Saturday, May 25, a service will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 182 Main St., in Thedford at 1pm with a visitation taking place 1 hour prior to the service. Donations are appreciated in Dean’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, Bluewater Palliative Care, or the Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel.
