Vernon Munro Magee

2019
Vernon Munro Magee of Valley View Villa, formerly of
Sutherland’s River passed away at the age of 91 at the
Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Vernon was born in Eureka and was the son of the late
William and Hazel (Munro) Magee.
He is survived by his wife Alice (Stewart) Magee and
his three children Valda (Allan) Jackson, Churchville; Vernon (Sharon)
Magee, Penticton, BC; and Nauldine (Robert) Martell, North Carolina.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Allison (James)
Jackson-O’Farrell, Christopher Jackson, Dustin (Megan) Magee
and Natalie and Andre Martell; two great-grandchildren Gillian and
William Jackson-O’Farrell. As well he had nieces, Rhonda,
Shona, and Nadine and nephew Kelvin all of
Ontario.
He is predeceased by his brother William Magee and
sister-in-law Betty Magee, sister Iva Roper and brother-in-law James
Roper.
Dad worked at plumbing in his early life and after
marrying he and Alice moved to Northern Ontario where he worked as a
telegrapher for the CNR. He continued this work in Hopewell when they
returned to Pictou County.
Dad graduated in 1964 from the Maritime Forest Ranger
School and was employed with the Department of Lands and Forests out
of Pictou County. During his career as a Forest Ranger he was involved
with many aspects of forestry work including land and wildlife
management and fire suppression. After receiving his pilot license, he
became a pilot for the Department which involved various types of work
such as wildlife surveys, search and rescue and fire detection. Later
he flew a beaver aircraft which was used for water bombing forest
fires as well as other work needed.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved fly fishing, hunting
and trapping. He was well known as a gunsmith which he worked at for
many years. After Dad retired from the Lands and Forests Dad had a
keen interest in woodworking.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no
visitation by request. A private family burial will take place at a
later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to a
charity of one’s choice.
