Ross Oliver Slack
1922-2019
Ross Oliver Slack – 96, Debert, passed
away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born in Debert, he was a son of the late Munro
and Laura (Matthews) Slack.
Ross was a long-time member of The Peoples Church from where
he received a perfect attendance certificate. He was a career
firefighter, working most of his career at Halifax Stanfield
International Airport. He loved camping locally with his wife and
grandchildren and after his retirement, bought a motor home and
travelled throughout the Maritime provinces. An avid outdoorsman, he
also loved time spent on his woodlot with the tractor and chainsaw.
The family would like to thank all those who took the time to visit
with Ross over the last few years while he resided in his assisted
living facility.
Ross is survived by his son, Stanley (Rosalie) Slack, Lantz;
grandson, Mark Slack (Susanne Priest) and their children, Ashlynn and
Lucas, Hanwell, New Brunswick; granddaughter, Sonya (Rob) Aikens and
their daughter, Addison, Upper Nine Mile River. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Creelman) Slack; son,
Eric Slack; daughter, Heather Slack; great granddaughter,
Norah.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ross’
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2019, and
funeral service 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2019, Pastor Ken Fillmore
officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Main Road
Cemetery, Debert. If so desired, donations in Ross’ memory
to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice are welcomed.
