Rick Raymond Eastep
of Waterloo and formerly of Elora was born on January 27, 1986 and went missing on January 7, 2019 while hiking on the Lost Coast Trail in Northern California. Rick is the son of Steven and Sandra (Grose) Eastep of Elora. Brother of Neil Eastep of Guelph, Dale and Kim Eastep of Elora and Kimberley Eastep and her friend Gregory Blake of Toronto. Uncle of Katie and Caleb. Grandson of Ruth (Wood) Grose of Alma and the late Raymond Grose (2018) and Robert M. Eastep of Pennsylvania and the late Grace (Weitzel) (1998). Nephew of Gordon and Christine Grose of Alma, Walter and Sharon Grose of Alma, Bob and Gladys Eastep of Maryland, Glen and Bev Eastep of Illinois, Don and Linda Eastep of Pennsylvania, Shirl Shaffer and friend Steven Nichols of Texas, Audrey and Don Stutzman of Pennsylvania and Tom and Sharon Eastep of Pennsylvania. Rick is fondly thought of by his many cousins and friends. Hiking was Rick’s passion and he would plan yearly trips and had hiked ‘The West Coast Trail’ in B.C., ‘Slims River West Trail’ in the Yukon, Glaciers and Trails in Norway, Trails in Cape Breton Island and numerous trails throughout Algonquin Park.
A Celebration to share stories of Rick’s life will be held at the Alma Community Centre, 51 Simpson Street, Alma on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a period of fellowship to share memories of Rick with his family.
The Eastep family would like to thank the Search and Rescue volunteers in Shelter Cove, California by providing funds to the Rescue Team so they could purchase satellite based search equipment for future use.
