PETER HUITEMA
Peter Huitema, 80, of RR1 Sebringville, passed away suddenly on Sunday,
April 7, 2019.
Beloved husband of the late Rose Huitema (Verellen). Cherished partner of
Nancy Cameron. Dear father of Dave Huitema (Linda), Bob Huitema (Roxana), Jeff Huitema
(Kerry) and Rick Huitema (Jamie-Lynn). Loving grandfather of Leticia Bottema
(Nathan), Mitchell, Paige, Wyatt, Jenna and Logan and great grandfather of
Hailey. Dear brother of Age Huitema (Mary), Bert Huitema (Marianne), Aukje Huitema,
Isabel Hetherington (Bill), Nick Huitema, Stefke Zantingh (Jack), Marijke
Huitema, John Huitema (Donna), Elizabeth Huitema, and Martha Huitema. Dear
brother-in-law of Will Huitema. Also surviving are the Verellen and Cameron
families and his many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Dominic and Anne Huitema, daughter-in-law Stacy
Huitema, brothers Jim and Ted Huitema.
Pete emigrated with his family from Friesland (Netherlands) in 1951 and
settled in Kinkora. Through hard work and determination, he built a
prosperous life and family. He learned and mastered the construction trade
before turning to full time farming in 1975. He married Rose in 1962 and
they raised four sons. Pete started a successful manufacturing business in
the late 90’s and recent years “slowed down” to pursue numerous projects and
spend time with his adored grandchildren.
Pete also gave a lifetime of service and commitment to the community. He had
served as Councillor and Deputy Reeve of Logan Township, in addition to
being a Past President of the Perth County Pork Producers, Grand Knight of
Kinkora Knights of Columbus #10655, Chair of Upper Thames River Conservation
Authority, Past President of the Mitchell Rotary Club and Leader and
Co-Leader of the V.O.S.H. Eye Team traveling to Central America for 25
years.
Pete will be missed by all, but not forgotten.
Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St.,
Mitchell on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and at St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church, Kinkora on Saturday from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ben Raze –
Celebrant. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. A reception will follow at
the Kinkora Community Centre. Memorial donations to V.O.S.H. may be made at
