Obituary of Petar Zuvela
Petar Zuvela passed away at the Victoria Hospital on April 19th, 2019 in his 98th year. He was the beloved husband of Ankica (Anna) Zuvela, predeceased in 2000, and dear father to Zeljko, of Calgary, AB. He was the grandfather of Mitchell, (spouse Anneli) of Cranbrook, B.C., and Jennifer (spouse Jeff) of Calgary, AB. He was also the great grandfather of Mitchell’s two children, Xander and Sophie Zuvela. Petar was predeceased by his brothers Ivan, Franco, Mile, Vjeko, Marin and good friend Nancy Young. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in Canada, the United States, and Croatia.
Petar was born in Vela Luka, Croatia, on July 7th, 1921. During his lifetime, Petar was an avid gardener. He tended to his beautiful flowers, concord grapes, and even grew a fig tree in his backyard. He loved to play bocce and 5-pin bowling, winning championship trophies in both activities. He also enjoyed Saturday afternoon dancing at the Legion. He was proud to be the eldest member of the St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Church. Petar was determined to maintain his independence up until the last days of his life.
Visitors will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, on 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London on Wednesday, April 24th, from 2-4 and 7-9, with prayers at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, 2889 Westminster Drive, on the morning of Thursday April 25th, at 11 am. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery after mass. Reception will be held following the interment at St. Leopold Church.
