Merlie Jean Hawkins of Brooks, formerly of Rolling Hills and beloved wife of the late Harold Hawkins, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in Brooks, on Monday, February 11th, 2019 at the age of 77 years. Born on July 31st, 1941 in Trochu, Alberta. Merlie retired in 2008 from running the family farm with Harold. Her interests included gardening, knitting, playing cards, reading to the children at Upland’s School and spending time with her granddaughters. Merlie’s greatest joy in life among all these other things was her great granddaughter Henley, who always brought a smile to her face. She was predeceased by her son, John, beloved husband, Harold, and parents John and Edith Radomske. Merlie is survived by her loving family, son Dean and his wife Susan of Brooks; granddaughters Chelsey (Daniel) and their daughter Henley all of Brooks and Kayla (Leighton) of Calgary; stepmother Elsa; sisters, Donna (Dennis) and Carol (Ken); brothers, Doug (Chris) and Dan (Patiana) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15th, 2019 at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. John Thiess officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Merlie, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of your choice.
Cremation is entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium, Brooks.
