Chisholm, Merle Verne, 87 – Bible Hill N.S. passed away in Willow Lodge Home for Special Care, Tatamagouche, N.S. on February 23, 2019. Born in East Mines, N.S., he was the son of the late William and Emma Chisholm. Merle is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Sutherland) Chisholm, Bible Hill; son, Scott (Melanie), Denver, Colorado; daughter, Susan, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Daniel (Brittany) and Jessica; brothers, Earl (Goldie), Angus (June), Frank (Barbara) as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Carl. Merle was employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia for over 40 years having worked in N.S., P.E.I, N.B. and Ontario. He retired as a Branch Manager in 1990 in Scarborough, Ontario. Merle was Past President of the Colchester Scottish Society and received Scot of the Year in 2013 from the Federation for Scottish Culture in Nova Scotia. Merle was also a member of the Canadian Association of Clan Sutherland and served as Secretary for many years. He was a faithful member of First United Church, singing with the Men’s Choir, gathering with the Eagle Sunrise Breakfast group and could be found on Monday mornings tidying up in the church. A Service of Celebration will take place Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2:00pm in First United Church, 711 Prince St., Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Merle’s memory to First United Church or a charity of your choice.
