It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Pauline Jenkins, Mom, Nannie, sister, aunt and friend, at the age of 80, on Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 29, 1938, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (Polly) (Kernick) Penny.
Missing her are her daughter Liane (Mel), and son Walter (Lynelle), along with her pride and joy, grandchildren Nathaniel (Maddy), Riley, Morgan and Kyra. Also left to mourn are her siblings Ronnie (Theresa), Dianne (Gar), Sandra (Gerry) and Lorne (Becky), in-laws Mary Viva, Louise Jenkins, Sis (Carl), Ann Marie (Harvey), Perkie, Viva (Greg), Vic (Judy), Donna, Louise (Francis), Debbie (Freddie), Paul (Jeannie), Rose, Mary (Barrie), numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Louie, son Steven, son in infancy, nephew Aaron, niece Laureen, in-laws Nick, Skip, Joe and Betty, Shirley and Wayne, and Joe Mitchell.
Mom’s greatest accomplishment was her family. “I love my family, I love my church, and I love my community.”
The family wishes to thank the numerous nurses, doctors, and hospital staff for their dedication and commitment to Mom. She appreciated every act and every chat. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Haley Street Adult Services Centre, St. Joseph Cemetery Fund, or the Cape Breton Special Olympics.
At Mary’s request, there will be no visitation. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 15, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J. J. MacDonald officiating.
