Kris Alexander Fenske 2019

Obituary Overview
Kris Alexander Fenske
Kris Alexander Fenske, you were so rich with the most loving heart and the gentlest of souls. So many people in life strive to have these qualities and they were just you. Your talents were so amazing, your music, your accomplishments in your work and your gift with humour to make us all feel better.
You were born in Thompson, Manitoba and had the gift of living next door to your Grandparents. Your next move was to Winnipeg where you grew up with many friends and finished school. Through these years, at a young age you stared guitar lessons with “Row Row Row Your Boat” and you mastered this in no time, therefore your nickname, the name many friends only knew you by, “Jimi” after Jimmy Hendrix. Your music was always a gift – it was a part of you and you shared it so beautifully – it just was in you.
After completing High School you went to school in Edmonton and then found your love and passion in the Sound Industry in BC. You worked at Sharpe Sound Studios as you started your career as a Sound Designer and made many lifelong friends and learned so much in the industry there. You had a dream and strong desire to work in LA, you worked hard, you took your chances and you made this dream a reality. You moved to LA – it was an adventure with little money in your pocket and a strong desire to live your dream. Well your dream became reality as doors opened for you with the gift of meeting and working with Lon, Wylie and Harry. You were admired and so deeply respected in the industry Kris, your work touched the whole world with your creativeness. Most of us see the world through our eyes; Kris you saw the world differently as your ears were how you captured so much in your life.
Your talents took you to do a movie in NY and that is where you met Talia and a new chapter in your life unfolded and the gift of your most precious little girl Raimi came into your life story. Kris, you faced challenges in your life that no one should have to face and through this it was hard to find your way – the thing that always was clear in your heart was the love of your little girl – she was the light of your life and will be through eternity.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Kris recently shared the Serenity Prayer with a tear in his eye as he said it, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. We know Kris would want everyone to be able to draw upon this prayer and find strength and courage and wisdom in your lives when you need it. It is Kris’ wish and our wish as a family for you to embrace your family and friends dear to you and to find the courage and strength and comfort in this prayer in your life journey.
We all have a story, Kris yours had the saddest of endings for all of us, our hearts are shattered and our lives forever changed, your loving spirit will always be with us as this is the legacy you left us with and we pray you have found your peace and happiness. Kris, we know you are not truly gone, you have merely slipped your mortal bonds and are now continuing on with the rest of your journey.
A celebration of Kris’ life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
To help us all heal and to celebrate Kris’ life we would ask that you share any stories of how you knew Kris and how he was a part of your life in this online guestbook; in all sharing Kris we will find comfort and celebrate Kris’ life for the gift that he was and always will be to each one of us.
Kris is survived by his father “Buzz” (Cathy) Fenske and family; mother Shelley (Richard) Carlin and Family; his partner Talia and daughter Raimi Houminer and family; grandmother? Mary “Nana” Fenske; grandmother Georgina “Gram” Hardy; Kris’ many friends and work associates.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Kris Alexander Fenske 2019..

  1. I had the greatest of honors to have met Kris in New York City, where he studied and excelled at the AVID Pro Tools Certification courses I administered for him. In that short period of time (over two weeks) I did get to know the person mentioned above in this beautiful memorial. When he finished the course with me in January, he was enthusiastically heading to LA once again to embark on a major movie project- with his family to follow him. I had just come across this obituary as I was reaching out to have Kris speak to my current students regarding his sound design success and prowess. This came as a shock that I am still not over. Someone please let me know what could have happened in that short period of time. I just spoke with my manager at Future Media Concepts in NYC where I was a freelance instructor, and he was equally as shocked and devastated. So please feel free to reach out to me: I will miss him dearly. My prayers go out to all of his family as well.

  2. This comes as a shock to me as well, and if anyone wants to reach out I would love to connect. I first met Kris by chance at a biergarten in Venice about 6 years ago. I was meeting another friend and he offered us two chairs and his dear and lasting friendship. I’ll miss our studio time, watching movies with him, and our ongoing discussions of film and life. He was a fellow film geek and a fellow musician, with a deep and passionate soul. His candor and insights were brilliant and I was eager to see him grow as an artist with his work, his music, and his life as a father. When last I heard he was en route to work in Los Angeles for an extended project. He was going to bring his beloved daughter Raimi (named after his beloved director Sam) and his partner Tal. He was bicoastal but they lived in New York, so I was looking forward to finally meeting them. Perhaps one day that will happen and I can share that part of Kris that lives on in me. For now I will share his love by offering a chair to new friends. I’ll listen for you in this world and see you in the next.
