Karl Wayne MacNaughton, in his 82 year, died Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Huron Residential Hospice, Clinton, following a brief battle with cancer. Karl was predeceased by his wife Annie Glenys (née Doupe) (2001) and his sister Vonnie (2006).
Karl was born to Arthur Lorne McNaughton and Elva Noreen (née McNichol) McNaughton. He is survived by siblings Paul, Bill, Jane and Joan and his children, Robert Ward, Sue (Corbett), Woodrow Cevin James, (Cynthia Lorraine Mayo), Carol Ann (Peebles), Dennis Gardiner MacNaughton, (Darlene Haugh), Murray Graham MacNaughton, (Robyne Wernham), Dale Allen Wayne MacNaughton, several nieces and nephews, a number of grandchildren and many musician friends.
In his early years, Karl worked many professions starting as a truck driver for National Grocers, a driver for Wedge the Mover out of Exeter, moving military families across Canada, a building inspector for the town of Lucan, a police constable for the town of Port Elgin, and he and Annie operated the Walton Inn for many years until Annie passed and Karl took to driving school bus for most of his later years. Karl was a horse owner and a member for over 40 years with Standardbred Canada and owned several winners over the years.
Karl was an entertainer and a First Class Fiddle Player who over 60 years authored over 150 fiddle tunes, many that were put to paper by Gladys Van Egmond. He played in several different bands that played for dances in Southern and Northern Ontario and Eastern Michigan and in his later years he entertained at nursing and retirement homes with his brother Paul and friends .He also judged at fiddle contests and was a great asset to young and older fiddlers who asked for help on their way forward.
Cremation has taken place and following Karl’s wishes there will be no visitation, celebration or funeral service. Arrangements were placed in the hands of McGlynn Family Funeral Home (519-527-1390), 87 Goderich Street West, Seaforth, Ontario.
