Obituary of Joseph Helaire Marchand
MARCHAND, Joseph Helaire of Antigonish/Louisdale
Joseph Helaire Marchand passed away peacefully at his residence in the RK MacDonald Guest Home on April 1, 2019 surrounded by his loving grandchildren and friends. He was born on June 28, 1929 to the late Alex and Elizabeth “Lizer” (Sampson) Marchand. During his life, he was self-employed as a truck driver, hauling gravel to projects like the Canso Causeway; he was a sheet metal worker; he drove a school bus; and was the care taker for CN Railroad. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, playing cards, and he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Helaire was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Marina (Boudreau). He will be deeply missed by his children Terry (Janice), Perry (Anna George), Phil (Laurie), Kenneth (Lorelei), Mona Peeples (Arnold); grandchildren Chad (Mara), Holly (Todd), Janelle (James), Jillian (Byron), Breanne, Morgan, Lee (Andrea), Brittany (Devin), Corey (Tiffany), Colin (Shauna); great grandchildren Rhylan, Kinley, Easton, Jersie, Landon, Shaelynn, Brielle, Nixon and Hadley. Helaire is survived by one sister, Marie Cordeau in Ontario. He was predeceased by brothers Alfred, Johnny, Walter, Felix, Alex and one sister Veronica Verado. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson room in Louisdale on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place Saturday afternoon at 1pm in St. Louis Church, Louisdale with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac presiding. A reception will follow in the St. Louis Parish Hall, Louisdale. Family flowers only please, memorial donations can be made to the St. Louis Church Renovation Fund. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurse’s and staff at the R.K. Macdonald Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care that they gave to Papa while he was under their care. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
