Peacefully at the Colville Manor on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019 of Joseph Edward (Eddie) Deveau of Souris West in his 97th year. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, August 8th, 1922, husband of the late Patricia (Tisa) Deveau and lovingly remembered by his sons Alan, David (Sara), Blair, Eric, Paul (Leona) and daughter Heather (Darrell Rogers). Beloved Grampie of Brian, Madelyn, Leah and Carson. Survived by brothers Freddy and Sonny and sister-in-law Yvonne ton. Predeceased by brothers Richard (Mar) and Joey (Helena) and sister Dorothy (Leo Cheverie). He is also survived and dearly loved by many nieces and nephews.
Eddie lived in the states until he was 11 years old. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Waterton, Massachusetts where he was a proud member of the boy’s choir. He carried his love of music throughout his life. In 1933, the family moved to PEI and established a farm in Lower Rollo Bay. In his early years, he worked for CN Rail. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Tisa. They were an amazing team. He served in the Air Force for 20 years and returned home to take over the family store Deveau’s Grocery. He was a pillar of his community, serving as a trustee on the school board, volunteering for numerous organizations and building and painting chairs. Ultimately, his favorite things in life were his family and friends. Eddie will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home with visiting hours on Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 3-7pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 will hold a service of remembrance at 7:30pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00am. Interment to follow in the St. Alexis Church Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations can be made to the St. Alexis Cemetery Fund.
