John F. Wisniewski
(Jan. 6 1938 – April 14, 2019)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on Sunday April 14, 2019. He will be greatly missed by his wife Anne, his son Chris (Marlene) Wisniewski, his daughter Susan (Greg) Stasiuk), his stepchildren Debbie(Harv) Basler, Rod (Pat) Brown, Maureen Schaffer, Mike (Anne) Brown, Cindy Hacault, Cam(Kristen) Brown, His grandchildren Nathan and Nolan Wisniewski, Sarah Stasiuk and twelve step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren.
In a way, we can divide John’s life into two Chapters. In the first, John was born and raised in Winnipeg, growing up in what now is Elmwood, with his sister Marian and parents Frank and Rose. His parents were very hard working people and for a time, owned and ran a local corner grocery store. This was probably when John, unknowingly at the time, inherited his entrepreneurial skills. As a teenager John was always working after school and could be found setting pins at the bowling alley or working in the Pepsi plant. It was in High School were John met Dianne, and at age twenty, married, settled, and raised his two children Chris and Susan in East Kildonan. Throughout his early years John worked for Imperial Oil and the CP Rail Police before starting an apprenticeship with CPR; he earned his Machinist Trade Certification four years later. John enjoyed time with family, and was always pulling and setting up the camper trailer throughout Manitoba. Later on, the camper was retired, and John’s attention then turned to the family cottage at Hillside beach.
John had many hobbies throughout these years, which sometimes evolved into passions and then business opportunities. He enjoyed photography, model railroading, coin and stamp collecting, tropical fish, and always improving the cottage. There was one hobby, however, that we all know eventually defined him as OK John. John took the hobby of Metal Detecting and turned it into a very successful and thriving business that he operated until six months prior to his passing.
Through the years, John was a very devoted husband who was always there through the good and bad. At a time when mental illness was misunderstood, John was ahead of his time in understanding this as a disease and never gave up helping Dianne and comforting his kids. Ultimately, this chapter would end with the passing of Dianne.
John’s second chapter begins with him meeting and then marrying Anne. John would describe Anne as “the Love of his Life” and would always have a smile on his face when she was near. John instantly embraced Anne’s large family and considered them as his own. Through these years John and Anne enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends, visited places such as Alaska and Las Vegas, and many casinos along the way. For twelve years John and Anne enjoyed their retirement together until a series of health issues slowed them down. John’s last five years were not good to him but he was determined and showed us all the fight and determination he always had in him. In his final days he was still the jokester and still smiled whenever Anne was with him. He was always thinking of everyone but himself and thanked everyone for being in his life just prior to passing.
At this time, we should all be thankful John had been part of our lives. He will be truly missed.
