Jean Krawec Schur 2019

Jean Krawec was born on July 18th, 1929 at Weiden, Manitoba in the Rorketon area, to Michael Krawec and Michalina (Chornoboy).
Jean married Henry Schur of the Ethelbert district in 1952 and, with the exception of a short stay in Dauphin, MB, they farmed in the Ethelbert district until their retirement to Dauphin in 1997. After fifteen years in Dauphin, Henry and Jean moved to Winnipeg in 2012.
Prior to and during her marriage, Jean worked in retail at Pulak’s General Store in Rorketon, Eaton’s in Dauphin and Gnazdowsky’s General Store in Ethelbert.
The major themes of Jean’s life were relationships, religion and rural Ukrainian culture – all of which intertwined freely. Legions of friends and family were always welcome at the farm in Ethelbert. Two chest freezers were always ready to welcome any party of guests, no matter how large. Her old style, Ukrainian farm cooking was legendary. A gardener and farmer at heart, she could operate farm machinery proficiently, and delighted in her large gardens and exquisite properties.
Always singing while she worked, she was a talented member of various church choirs and the Dauphin Ukrainian Festival Choir, as well as the conductor of the Vitriwka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Choir in Ethelbert.
A life-long member and executive of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League, Jean was a devoted member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Ethelbert, the Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin and Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Henry, and her siblings Terry, Sylvia, Stanley, John, Helen, Mary, Ann, Vicky, Nick, Marvin, Steve, Harry and Peter. She is survived by her siblings Sam, Olga, Alec and Martin.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Carolyn (Dave Fetsch), Willard (Joyce) and Danny (Juliane Schaible) as well as grandchildren, Andrea (Daniel Camaclang), Kevin (Errin), Jonathan (Teagan Fidek), Anna and Stefan, great-grandchildren Lane and Brielle as well as dozens of nieces and nephews across the country.
Prayers will be led by Fr. Mark Gnutel at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25th, at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave., Winnipeg. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Oleg Bodnarski at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th at Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, Manitoba. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
