Obituary of Hermann Harms
Harms, Vollrath Hermann –Peacefully at Bridge Street Retirement Residence on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Irmgard Harms. Dear companion of the late Cilli Mayer. Loving father of Wolfgang (Susan Arthur) of Bellingham, WA, Doris of Vancouver and Elizabeth (Harold Kuschnik) of Colborne. Proud grandfather of Rachel and Lance Kuschnik. Hermann was a Radio Technician and operator, he worked on various aircraft and ships including the Arosa Star. He retired after twenty five years of service with the Iron Ore Company of Canada, serving in Schefferville, PQ, Sept Iles, PQ and Labrador City, NFLD before retiring to Belleville. In retirement he was a committed volunteer with the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron, a past president of the Quinte German Canadian Club and an avid member of the Quinte Amateur Radio Club. He was a recipient of the Canadian Memorial Medal in 1992. Hermann always had a positive outlook. He was a great story teller, painter, musician, boat builder and sailor. A Celebration of Hermann’s life will be held at the Steele Family Centre, 20 Moira Street West on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel (613-968-2273). If desired, Memorial Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
