Obituary of Harry Henricus Smit
SMIT – Harry Henricus: Went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Leewarden, Holland on January 31, 1931. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Hyacinth (DeSerrano) in 2007. Loving father of Valerie Smit (Darryl Faber), Michele Druiett (Greg) and Jennifer Wintemute (Warren). Cherished grandfather of Trevor Druiett (Ed), Ashley and Brendan Barnard and their father Larry Barnard. Dearly cherished great papa to Lucas. Also surviving is his sister Marie Jalsevac, Annie Stamcoff, Jeannette Tomset (Dave), brother Felix Smit, sister-in-law Donna DeSerrano and many nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his parents Catherine and Stephen Smit, siblings Henk, Meta, Lyda, Stephen, Peter, John. He will be lovingly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, the Blue Jays, the thrill of a good card hand and love of a good sale. Former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 79, The Phoenix Club, Army, Navy and Airforce Club and the Seniors Centre. Friends are invited to meet with the Family on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 7 – 9 p.m. at THE BALDOCK FUNERAL HOME, 96 Norfolk St. N., Simcoe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 211 Union St., Simcoe. Reverend Father Lucio officiating. Interment at Our Lady of LaSalette Cemetery.
