Gwyneth Stewart Maiden Bouchard of Edmonton Apr 24 2019

We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Gwyneth Stewart on 24 April 2019.
Born on 31 May 1928 in Edmundston, NB, Gwyneth lived an extraordinary life shaped early on by challenges of illness that spurred her on to embrace all opportunities and to exceed all expectations. Married to Gordon in 1954, she raised two children, Eleanor and Andrew, while taking on a wide range of community service activities in Moncton, Montreal, Halifax, and Edmonton. She was a dedicated Girl Guide Leader, IODE member and hospital and church volunteer. Gwyn was innovative in her pursuits and was able to introduce creative ideas long before others. For example, in 1969, she developed a therapeutic recreation program for children with disabilities and later, in the 1970s, established a Girl Guide troop for girls who were blind-even taking them camping- a first in Canada at the time. She taught speech reading in continuing education, to graduate students in communication disorders, and to the public through a televised program at Mount St. Vincent University. In Edmonton, Gwyn was a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Disability. She continued to make her mark on volunteer projects up until shortly before her final illness.
Our “Mamie” as her family knew her, will be remembered for her authenticity, advocacy, dedication, and vibrancy. Most of all, she will be remembered for her steadfast love of her children and grandchildren. Mamie was one of a kind! She is survived by her children, Eleanor and Andrew (Christine) and her grandchildren, Robin (Jason), Ceinwen, Brendan, and Ainsley and nieces and nephews in Canada, UK, and USA.
We wish to thank Geraldine MacInnis and all the staff of 4AB at Edmonton General for their excellent care. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, 30 April, at 3 pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
